Responsive Design for Cloud Database Startup

About a month ago NuoDB, a tech startup in Cambridge, MA, reached out to us to help redesign its website. Our client was looking for a solution that could support a couple of primary call-to-actions, communicate NuoDB’s value proposition and provide the best possible user experience for their prospective customers. Today, we’re very excited to announce the launch of the redesigned site.

To achieve NuoDB’s desired outcomes, we took a Mobile First approach to the site redesign. Mobile first means that we think about content and UI for mobile devices first, and then layer additional content when we get to the desktop version of the design. This approach helped NuoDB figure out what content was most essential to their prospective customers.

Our next challenge was to ensure that the design was accessible and optimized for both desktop and mobile devices, or as the Web design aficionados like to call it “Responsive Design.” The premise of Responsive Design is simple: Build your website and then use a combination of JavaScript and CSS to change the presentation of the website so that it provides a custom experience for the website visitor. If you take a peek at www.nuodb.com on your phone, and then on your computer, you’ll notice that the content, including the call-to-action, is different, reflecting the type of experience a user is expected to have on these devices.

Here are some before and after shots of the site:
